How to Apply for Financial Aid
Attending college can be expensive, but with the help of financial aid, it does not have to be.
It is part of Wayne County Community College District's mission to make college affordable and accessible to everyone.
Applying for Financial Aid
The first step to getting financial aid is to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Apply today.
Your parent or guardian must also provide information and sign if you are a dependent student.
Filling Out Your FAFSA
The FAFSA is available online as early as October 1st unless otherwise notified by the U.S. Department of Education.
To complete the FAFSA to apply for aid, follow these steps:
- Complete all sections about yourself and parents if you are dependent, your school plans, and your (and your parents') financial information.
- Indicate WCCCD using our school code: 009230.
- Provide your electronic signature (PIN). You must set up your PIN during the FAFSA application process. If you are a dependent student, remember to include your parent's (known as the Contributor) PIN, or your FAFSA will be rejected.
- The student and all contributors must consent to allowing access to FTI (Federal Tax Information) on the FAFSA or the FAFSA will be rejected and the student will not be eligible to receive federal student aid.
- Submit your information.
- Print out and keep a copy of your submitted information for your records.
What Happens Next
After filling out your FAFSA you will receive two things:
- The U.S. Department of Education will email you a FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS). Read your FSS thoroughly, check it for accuracy, and follow up on any requests for additional information. Your Student Aid Index (SAI) is calculated from the information you provided on the FAFSA and is listed on your FSS. The SAI is a formula-based index number ranging from –1500 to 999999. Where your SAI falls within the SAI range helps the District Financial Aid Office determine how much financial support you will need. If you have special or unusual circumstances that may impact your dependency status or SAI, you may notify the District Financial Aid Office by completing the Special Circumstance or Unusual Circumstance forms on the WCCCD Student Forms portal.
- If the U.S. Department of Education selects your FAFSA for a process called verification, you will need to submit additional information to WCCCD. Check WEB GATE and WCCCD Student Forms for your financial aid requirements status. Be sure to check Web Gate, WCCCD Student Forms, and your email often for updates.
