Futures for Frontliners (F4F)
F4F is a State of Michigan scholarship for frontline workers working in essential industries during the COVID-19 shutdown in the spring of 2020. F4F provides a pathway for tuition-free access to public community colleges to earn an associate degree or an industry-recognized certificate.
- Must file the FAFSA for the academic year in which a student will be enrolled, and the verification process must be completed for those required.
- Must enroll at least half-time in courses that count toward the student’s program of study
- Must have begun usage of F4F by enrolling in 6 or more credits within the spring, summer, or fall semester of 2021
- Must have submitted a F4F application by December 31, 2020
- Must enroll in at least two out of three semesters during each 12 months (begins at the start of a student’s first semester as an F4F participant in which they are enrolled in at least six credits)
- Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average while being an F4F participant
- Must not be in default on a Federal student loan or Title IV overpayment
Reconnect
Michigan Reconnect is a scholarship program that pays in-district tuition and fees for students 25 and older to attend community college. Students can use the scholarship to earn an associate degree or an industry-recognized certificate.
- Must file the FAFSA for the academic year in which a student will be enrolled, and the verification process must be completed for those required
- Must enroll at least half-time in courses that count toward your program of study
- Must enroll in at least two out of three semesters during each 12 months (begins at the start of a student’s first semester as a Reconnect participant in which they are enrolled in at least six credits)
- Must maintain a 2.0 grade point average while being a Reconnect participant
Michigan Competitive Scholarships (MCS)
This competitive scholarship is awarded to students who:
- Meet the established ACT score;
- Demonstrates a financial need;
- Enroll in a public Michigan college or university on at least a half-time basis; and
- Document their Michigan residency.
Gear Up Michigan! Scholarship
This state grant targets three urban public school systems: Detroit, Flint and Muskegon. Low-income middle school students from these districts are identified as recipients.
Tuition Incentive Program (TIP)
The eligibility criteria stipulate that a student must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawfully admitted alien with a permanent status;
- Be a Michigan resident;
- Apply prior to high school graduation or GED completion; and
- Be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
The department of Human Services determines eligibility based on the receipt of Medicaid for 24 months prior to TIP application. See your campus financial aid officer for additional information.
