Anesthesia Technology

The Anesthesia Technology Program is a six-semester program that prepares students to enter the allied health profession. It focuses on fundamental and advanced clinical procedures and assists the anesthesia provider in the safe and efficient care of patients under anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technologist works under the direction of an anesthesia provider as a vital member of the anesthesia care team. The Anesthesia Technologist will become proficient in acquiring, preparing, and applying various types of equipment required to deliver anesthesia care.

Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians Work With

Anesthesia Technologists work with the Anesthesia Care team to help monitor patients undergoing anesthesia. The Anesthesia Technologist may have other duties, including equipment maintenance and servicing, such as cleaning, sterilizing, and assisting with auto-transfusion.

Where Do They Work?

Anesthesia technologists may work in various clinical settings, including hospital operating rooms, interventional and diagnostic radiology, labor and delivery units, intensive care units, emergency rooms, outpatient procedure suites, and ambulatory surgery centers.

The employment of surgical technologists and technicians in a field directly aligned with anesthesia technology is projected to grow by 5% from 2022 to 2032, given the aging population, which may require more surgery and treatments requiring anesthesia.

Where is WCCCD’s Anesthesia Technology Program Offered?

The Anesthesia Technology Program – Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Program is offered at our Northwest campus. As a WCCCD student, you can take prerequisite courses, use facilities, and get involved at any of our six locations.
