Residency Information
If you are a resident of the Wayne County Community College District, then you are eligible for reduced in-district tuition rates provided you can submit proof of residency.
Am I a Resident?
Yes, if you reside within the Wayne County Community College District service area at the time of your registration. WCCCD considers the college district to be all of Wayne County with the exception of those residing in: Dearborn, Garden City, Highland Park, Livonia, Northville, Plymouth and par of Canton Township.
If you reside outside of the college district but still within the state of Michigan, you are eligible for an in-state tuition rate.
How Do I Prove Residency?
You must provide one or more of the following documents:
*A valid Michigan driver’s license (both sides are to be submitted if your license has been renewed or address changed)
*A valid motor vehicle registration
*A utility bill in your name
*A valid Michigan ID card
*A payroll stub with your name and address
*A new rental or lease agreement in your name
*A current property tax receipt (must be place of residence)
*A military ID card
*A motorized statement verifying residency signs by your parents if you are still in high school, along with your parent’s proof of residency or your current high school transcript or report card.
Are There Any Exceptions?
Yes, there are a few.
If you identify as North American Indian, you will receive free tuition after residing in the state of Michigan for 12 consecutive months.
If you are a child of deceased, 100% disabled, or missing Michigan veterans between the ages of 16 and 22 and a state resident for at least 12 months, you may receive free tuition for 36 months.
If you are a qualifying veteran or spouse or dependent of a veteran, you pay in-state tuition fees regardless of your formal state of residence.
I’m a Veteran; How Do I Qualify?
You live in Michigan and enroll in school within three years of discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.
Your spouse or child enrolls in school within three years of your discharge from a period of active duty service of 90 days or more.
A spouse or child lives in Michigan using the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship benefits and enrolls in school within three years of the late veteran’s death in the line of duty.
Note: All decisions regarding residency may be appealed to the Office of Admissions and Records who along with the Vice Chancellor of Student Services will review.
