Teaching and Learning Center

The Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) is a joint initiative between the faculty and administration to provide a collaborative environment to create engaged learning and teaching experiences, increase student success, and form an intellectually diverse, rigorous, and active learning community. With the faculty members leading the way and the administrators supporting them, the team began developing the TLC housed in Blackboard and launched in Fall 2021.

The Guiding Principles:

  • Emphasize inquiry
  • Innovation
  • Collaboration
  • Practice implementation
  • Reflection

The Teaching and Learning Blackboard shell provides faculty with the following information and content:

  • Listing of required textbooks for each discipline
  • Faculty resources, such as academic grade explanation, a community resource guide, grade appeal policy and procedure, incomplete grade procedure and requirements, and instructional field trip request form
  • Information on technology, specifically Blackboard, Web-Gate, and Smart Boards
  • Library resources
  • Links to articles that provide tips on engaging with students, building a community within the classroom, and dealing with new forms of plagiarism

Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) First Friday Faculty Forum

TLC First Friday Faculty Forum is a monthly interactive virtual meeting through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra where faculty can share ideas and discuss different topics impacting instruction, the District, and higher education. Each month covers a different topic; presenters are faculty and administrators across the District.

The First Friday Faculty Forums occur the first Friday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. through Blackboard Collaborate Ultra. Since the start of First Fridays in Fall 2021, TLC has seen consistent and growing attendance at the forums.
