Criminal Justice: Public/Private Security

The Criminal Justice: Public/Private Security Certificate Program provides students
with knowledge and hands-on experience in trend analysis, risk analysis, security surveys, and the application of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design. Students will also learn how to address security-related events, conduct site surveys, and utilize proactive security measures. The Program benefits those interested in entering the field, those currently employed in the field, police officers, corrections officers, business owners, architects, retail workers, school employees, operations personnel, and those seeking the knowledge to help secure their environment.

What Do Criminal Justice Security Professionals Do?

Criminal Justice: Public/Private Security individuals are responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the organization’s corporate security vision, strategy, and programs. They direct staff in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining security processes across the organization to reduce risks, respond to incidents, and limit exposure to liability in all areas of financial, physical, and personal risk; establish appropriate standards and risk controls associated with intellectual property; and direct the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures related to data security.

Criminal Justice: Public/Private Security graduates work in such areas as private, corporate, business, and residential property settings, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), casinos, automotive companies, hospitals, and shopping malls.

How Long Does it Take to Earn a Criminal Justice Public/Private Security Certificate?

Most CJPPS students take three semesters (1.5 years) to complete certificate prerequisites and required courses.

The Criminal Justice Public/Private Security Certificate Program provides students with the knowledge and hands-on experience in trend analysis, risk analysis, security surveys, and the application of crime prevention through environmental design. WCCCD criminal justice public/private security students learn how to address different security-related events, conduct site surveys, and utilize proactive security measures. Courses cover various topics such as criminal investigation, asset protection, and security.

Where is WCCCD’s Criminal Justice Program Offered?

The Criminal Justice Public/Private Security Program is offered at our Curtis L. Ivery Downtown Campus. The campus also offers classes for other criminal justice-related certificates and degrees. 

As a WCCCD student, you can take courses, use facilities, and get involved at any of our six locations.
