Pre-Social Work

The Pre-Social Work program provides a broad-based two-year Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree curriculum. It is designed to instill a knowledge base of the foundations of social work practice: purpose and mission, sanctions, values and ethics, knowledge and methods, and skills.

A Pre-Social Work Associate of Arts degree provides a foundation in liberal arts coursework leading to a BSW degree at select four-year institutions. It prepares you for culturally competent, ethical, effective, and accountable generalist social work practice and future educational and employment opportunities.

There are two main types of social workers:

  • Direct-service social workers who help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives
  • Clinical social workers who diagnose and treat mental, behavioral, and emotional issues

Social workers work in various settings, including mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, and private practices. They generally work full-time and may need to work evenings and weekends.
