Library Technology

Libraries are cultural hub and learning center that connects people, ideas, and information. The Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) library technology faculty prepares students to gain the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to obtain and excel in technician-level positions at all libraries.

Our program offers students knowledge about the different departments, library types, and issues within library science.

The service areas, including circulation, reference, and technical services, will all be explored. The course objectives are reached through case analysis, research papers, technology, tours, and group projects.

A  Certificate in library technology from WCCCD prepares you for work across various roles, such as a Library Technician and Library Assistant.

What’s the Job Outlook for Library Technicians and Library Assistants?

Employment of library technicians and assistants is projected to decline 3 percent from 2018 to 2028, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Libraries will use these workers to take over some of the duties of librarians, whose hourly wages are usually higher.
